Update Day 4

Here is a photo of me just before going in to the pre-surgery room (my sister in the background.)

I did not want to walk into the surgery room, but had to laugh about Dani's Grey's Anatomy approach. I sure did get the entire experience.
First step was into a check in room. I was told to get into the hospital pajama's and gown. Second step was the pre-surgery holding room. I got the IV in my arm and then waited the long wait. I was surprise that I walked into the surgery room and actually laid on that table....I was a little freaked, but I told the anesthesiolist that I did not want to "hang out in the surgery room" and he accommodated me well. I laid down and asked where Dr. Feldman was and that is all I remember. Surgery was suppose to take place at 9:15 but was delayed until 10:06, the entire surgery lasted 2 hours and 20 minutes.
Pulling out of recovery was very strange too. I remember looking at the clock on the wall and asking if it was all done. Of course I knew something was different because my mouth was banded pretty tight. Shortly there after I was transferred to my room.

As you can see, I am looking here like what the hell did I just do?

Here is my Day 1 post op appointment at Dr. Feldman's office. The room was super hot and I was trying not to get sick.

The trip home was okay car ride...ferry ride...I was very glad to be home.

Day 2, we went to see Dr. Feldman because the splint he wired into my mouth had very sharp wires (still does) and I wanted him to trim them. For some reason he didn't - I was too outta of it to figure why.

I did order one of these which came late because of shipping errors, but is very nice once you get it set up!

And, finally today's photo...

  1. Brent,
You are looking GREAT! So glad things are going well, from what it seems besides the splint- sorry to hear about the wires. But 2 hours!? WOW, they sure got the job done in a timely manner! Hahah great pictures! And I agree, the face wrap is awesome. I didn't have one with all the tubes, but it seems nicer than mine. Hope recovery is going well, and continues that way too. Well wishes!!

  2. Wow, 2 hours?! Boy do I wish I was you, lol. And I agree 100% on the weirdness of placing yourself onto the table, surreal indeed. I'm glad to hear (and see) that you're doing as well as anyone in this position can do. Your swelling already seems to have gone down significantly in today's pic. Thanks for the post and the pics. Wishing you the best. Be well! :)

  3. WOW Brent!! I have been waiting for an update from you and I'm so glad to see you're doing so well and obviously in good spirits, yippee!! First, I must ask, what is that funny thing around your head in the pic above? lol - I might need to order one of those!

Second, you look FANTASTIC! It doesn't appear you have much swelling. Has it already peaked? And I cannot believe your surgery lasted under 2.5 hrs!!! Did you only end up doing the lower jaw? That's awesome it didn't last very long. I was a little freaked out to here you actually walked into the OR and laid down on the table. What is it with you and Dani haha? Did you have a choice in this? I don't think I could be as brave as you.

We are looking forward to your next update! How is sleeping in a recliner? I almost forgot to ask - is it comfortable? I remember you mentioning you bought one from Macys.

  5. Brent, your photos are probably the most expressive I've seen. You didn't even need to caption the one right after surgery and the one in the docs office, your eyes say it all. Looking pretty darn good on day 4! Congrats. I'm beginning to think that there may be something to doing this surgery post-30. Or maybe I'm just being hopeful. Anyway, keep up the good work! P.S. we want to see a profile pic!

  7. Hahha Brent I must be crazy to have LOVED being fully awake until the moment they needed to put me under. It was so awesome!! Glad to hear you are doing well, I have been keeping up with your posts but have a million things going on in these next few weeks so I apologize if I don't comment much!

  8. @ Amanda - I know, I look like I was rolled out by a bull dozer!
@ Dani - you are the original "gangster" so to speak...walking into the surgery room all brite eyed and bushy tail! I read that on your blog and made it a point to not have that happen to me but....surprise to me! I will say very strange experience!

  9. Bubba,

Dr Feldman did clip two of the wires and he did adjust one by bending it a little. He just couldn;t get super close to them without pushing your mouth open really wide, so he was conservative about what he did.
